"Final Fantasy 9" Reaches 8.9 Million Copies in Global Sales

According to Japanese media reports, the global sales of "Final Fantasy 9" have reached 8.9 million copies, an increase of 3 million copies compared to 2019. Based on 2020 data, the PlayStation version has shipped over 5.5 million copies worldwide.

 

 

The Japanese media reported that the game, released in 2000, is the ninth installment in the "Final Fantasy" series. The cumulative global shipments and downloads have exceeded 8.9 million copies. Set in a picture - book - like world, it depicts a journey to find the "place to return to". With the theme of "returning to the origin", this game tells the story of the encounter of Zidane, a thief, Princess Garnet, and Vivi, a black mage. Each of them, with different thoughts in their hearts, is involved in an epic adventure story centered around crystals.
